Snack Idea: Monster Mouths

One snack our kids love to do with friends, is MONSTER MOUTHS!

This fun snack is easy to do and as healthy as you want to make it.

Take apple slices and cut a wedge out of the center of the skin.

Fill the wedge with peanut butter, almond butter, or cookie butter.

Let the kids insert two rows of pearly white “teeth.”

And… done! You get the “Fun Mom” award!

For the teeth, we used mini marshmallow bits. I’ve found Jet Puffed bits at Walmart before, but they can be hard to find. Amazon sells a big container - “Sarah’s Candy Factory” - that we like to buy instead.

Mix it up by experimenting with mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc.

Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the biggest wins! We came up with this idea one night, when Bryce was working late and I was at my wit’s end. I couldn’t figure out what to do for dinner and all the kids wanted anyway was apples. “Okay, fine!” I thought. As I was cutting up an apple, I thought, “why not make an extra slit in here and fill it with peanut butter? We also had some marshmallow bits laying around for hot chocolate, and voila!

“What is this, Mom?!”

Uhhh… I didn’t know.

“It’s Monster Mouths, of course!” I invented.

“Yeah, these are Monster Mouths! You fill them with these little teeth, and then bite down on the white side like this, and it looks like you have a monster mouth!”

I snapped a quick picture and we all laughed and laughed.

Monster Mouths became an instant favorite!

There are days you feel like you’re scraping rock bottom as a parent, but now and then those very days are the days you simplify so drastically that you end up making core memories that last a lifetime!
